Student Resources Navigator
The Student Resources Navigator provides support to students needing support with basic needs. This came to be in 2021, when the Oregon legislature passed House Bill 2835 (HB2835), the Benefits Navigator Bill, which allowed the Student Resources Navigator position to be created with the intent to provide basic needs support to students at community colleges and public universities in Oregon.
What is a basic need?
A basic need refers to essential services that support your well-being and directly impact your ability to remain enrolled in school. The following are the basic needs the Student Resources Navigator can support you with:
- Housing
- Food
- Transportation
- Childcare
- Health Care
How will the Student Resources Navigator help you?
The Student Resources Navigator will meet with you to address the basic needs. You will be referred to the appropriate campus and community resources that can address basic needs. The Resources Navigator will assist with any benefit application processes, and provide guidance to ensure successful connections with these resources.
Who can access the Student Resources Navigator?
Any Chemeketa student with a K number is welcome to schedule an appointment to receive support accessing resources.
What are some available resources on campus?
Chemeketa provides a variety of student resources on campus. The Student Resources Navigator provides assistance and support to the following resources:
- Student Emergency Fund: Provides one-time support to students facing unexpected financial hardships that may affect their ability to stay in school
- Marion County Fund: Provides one-time support to students seeking rent assistance or are in need of support with the deposit fee and first month's rent in Marion County, with limited availability in Salem
- Short-Term Student Resources: Provides one-time aid to student who are seeking support with transportation needs and have exhausted all other resources including their financial aid refund check
- Clothing Closet: Student can access the Clothing Closet and receive up to five professional clothing items per term
- STEP: Provides tuition & fee support to students seeking a degree or career technical education (CTE) certificate

Chemeketa scholarships are open to all students and you don't need a social security number to apply. Applications usually open between February and April and scholarships are awarded for the next academic year. -
Community Financial Resources
Northwest Human Services
Offers Emergency Financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship in Marion and Polk County. Funding is limited.Oregon Tribal Student Grant
Provides grants to eligible Oregon tribal students to offset the cost of attendance for attending eligible Oregon colleges and universities.Oregon Grants and Scholarships
Current or future Oregon students can apply for grants and scholarships, get help completing financial aid applications, and learn about preparing for college, training, and careers. The HECC Office of Student Access and Completion administers financial aid and college and career access programs for the State of Oregon.Oregon Department of Human Services

Program for free or low-cost telephone and Internet servicesYamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP)
Assist the residents of Yamhill County, focusing on four primary service categories: Housing Stabilization, Energy Services, the regional Food Bank, and Youth Services.
